Most Checked Out Titles in March

Posted on April 14, 2018 by GPL

I always enjoy seeing what books other people are picking up to read.  It’s fun to see what titles and authors are getting a bunch of buzz and how what’s popular changes from month to month.  Here are the top 15 adults books that circulated the most in March of this year.  Have you read any of these?

Posted on March 14, 2018 by GPL

Today on GPL Lunch Break (LIVE on Facebook!) we discussed Shakespeare plays and adaptations in honor of the upcoming Ides of March! The Ides of March (March 15th) was the day Julius Caesar was assassinated in 44 BC, the conspiracy that Shakespeare recounts in his tragic play. If you’d like to read more about the Ides of March (and reasons to beware it) take a look at this article from Smithsonian.com: https://www.smithsonianmag.com/history/top-ten-reasons-to-beware-the-ides-of-march-8664107/

Have you met lynda?

Posted on March 9, 2018 by GPL

A new online learning option is now offered at GPL. Lynda.com is an online learning site that hosts a constantly growing library of over 3,000 courses that include over 130,000 videos. Courses cover a variety of topics (including business, design, web development, and multimedia skills) and software (Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, and open source applications) that can help you pursue personal and professional goals. These courses are delivered by expert instructors and feature searchable transcripts that make it easy to find quick answers to questions.

Anyone with a GPL Evergreen Indiana library card will have access to the full collection of online tutorials.

“We are excited to offer Lynda.com for patrons to use 24/7,” stated reference librarian Susan Jerger. “They can learn about QuickBooks, animation, coding, Microsoft Office, marketing, and dozens of other topics through 130,000+ video tutorials on Lynda.com…all from the comfort of their own homes. We aren’t able to offer classes on all those topics and the classes we do offer don’t always work time-wise for a patron, so Lynda.com fills a learning gap in our community.”

For access to lynda.com, visit our website www.greenwoodlibrary.us. Users will need their library card number and pin to login.

Books on the Big Screen

Posted on November 24, 2017 by GPL

Summer is known for blockbuster movies, but it’s the holiday season that makes me the most excited.  November and December have brought us Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Les Miserables, and this year’s Murder on the Orient Express.  The holidays always seem to bring some great books to life on the big screen.  If you love reading the books that inspired the movies, then check out this list of titles that have recently been (or soon will be) given the star treatment.  Do you have a favorite movie adaptation?
