Lori Feller is a brand new member of the Library Board of Trustees, and is also its new President. But she is certainly not new to the library.
I first met Lori at the Primetime book club, and was amazed to find out that this sharp, upbeat, professional, woman was also the mom of triplets! In spite of this busy life, Lori volunteered to help the Friends of the Library with fundraising when the library hit hard times in 2009. She took the plunge and joined the board of the Friends of the Library and began lending her considerable talents to that group. Recently, she volunteered to change hats and help the library recover from our biggest challenge yet – she was appointed by the Greenwood Community School Board to be a GPL Trustee.
Over the next few months, I will be introducing you to each of our trustees. I talked to Lori recently and asked her to tell you a little about her life.
What do you do for a living?
“I work in the compensation area at Lilly. I help ensure that we are paying our executives and researchers competitively including salary scale development, market analysis and delivery of our annual merit cycle. I also help with the required SEC reporting for executive compensation in the proxy statement and provide support for the compensation committee of the board of directors. We have about 10 meetings a year so I help with the preparation of the content and ensure senior management has what they need for each meeting.”
What interested you about being a Trustee?
“I wanted to help the library get to a better place and I thought with my experience with finance/budgeting I could help.” (Did I mention that Lori is a CPA?)
Tell us a little about your daily life – What do you like to do?
“I seem to stay busy just trying to keep up with the activites the kids are involved in. Colten and Nolan participate in various sports, boy scouts and band while Dayna dances and sings in the choir. I used to be better at keeping up with my hobbies. I still read don’t spend as much time with yoga and knitting as I used to.”
What do you like to read?
“My favorite books are the ones with happy endings. I love a happy, sappy story. I like to read stories about families, relationships….so yes, I am a romance novel reader!”
What do you love about the library?
“I think our library has heart. We care about the community and want to help meet the needs of our community by providing classes and other resources. I love reading the books and, of course, book club.”
Welcome, Lori – and thank you for serving GPL!
